Capital City Golf School
CCGS Philosophy
The CCGS believes that everyone can learn and enjoy the game of golf. The School's mission is to develop and serve life-long golfers of all ages and abilities by encouraging students to LEARN, PRACTICE, and PLAY. The act of learning, practicing and playing, however, is not effective unless the learning environment is constructed in a way that makes learning the game Fast, Easy, and Fun. This objective not only addresses major issues affecting the industry, it puts people at ease and makes them more open to the pure enjoyment that learning the game can bring.

We want to make sure students think of golf as a game, not a series of complicated rules and maneuvers with a ball and a club. If people enjoy their pursuit, they will continue it.

Level 1 - GET IN THE GAME:
A series of classes designed for the beginner, in which the emphasis is on the fundamentals of the short game and full swing. Golfers are encouraged to take the series of classes which includes an “Introduction to the Course,” with explanation of the rules and etiquette, pace of play issues, and transition to playing a game of golf. Active participation in Supervised Practice is encouraged. Students can select from the following classes:

• Beginner Full Game
• Beginner Full Swing
• Beginner Short Game
• Intro to the Course

Level 2 - STAY IN THE GAME:
This series of classes is created with an intermediate golfer in mind. He or she may have had lessons before with some experience on the course. The person is looking to get a refresher on fundamentals related to one or more aspects of the game. Active participation in Supervised Practice is encouraged. Students can select from the following classes:

• Full Game Review
• Full Swing Review
• Short Game Review
• Creating Power and Distance
• On the Course

• Video Swing Analysis

Level 3 - REFINE YOUR GAME
This is the series for a player who knows of a specific area upon which he/she needs to focus. Golfers can select from a list of “intensive” classes, designed to provide concentrated work on one area or aspect (e.g., iron play). Active participation in Supervised Practice is encouraged. Students can select from the following classes:

• Intensive Putting and Chipping
• Intensive Pitching and Bunker
• Intensive Woods
• Intensive Irons
• Create Power and Distance
• On the Course
• Practice and Play

Women’s Golf
Our women's programs offer a learning environment that is less threatening and which speaks to the concerns many women have about playing the game of golf. The classes cover topics specifically affecting women players, such as strength and creating power and distance. Whether the golfer is advanced, simply preferring an all woman class, or a beginner who is looking for a “less intimidating” class setting, the ultimate goal is accomplished. The customer gets the class type and setting she is looking for and because the learning environment is ideal, she is more likely to stay in the game. Students can select from the following classes:

• Women's Beginner Full Game
• Women's Intro to the Course
• Women's Full Game Review
• Women's Practice and Play
• Drills and Fitness for Women

Also, the CCGS has served as an Associate Club for the Washington Metro Chapter of the Executive Women's Golf Association (EWG). This volunteer organization serves over 500 women in the greater Washington area. In this role, the CCGS has conducted "At Ease on the Tees" a lesson program for beginners and others transitioning to the golf course.

Senior Swingers
The senior classes mirror the curriculum in our general adult classes, but with greater emphasis on issues such as strength and flexibility. Maintaining body strength and flexibility is critical for golfers who want to maintain their distances and stamina while playing golf. For all persons who are getting into the game, it is important to establish and maintain a warm-up and cool-down routine, as well as a regular stretching and strengthening program away from the golf course. Senior students can select from the following classes:

• Senior Swingers Short Game
• Senior Swingers Full Swing
• Seniors On the Course
• Seniors Drills and Fitness

Junior Golf Classes
Junior programs serve youth 5 to 17 years old and cover all aspects of the game including rules, etiquette and pace of play. Our group classes for juniors are designed to challenge youngsters in a fun and creative learning environment. We pride ourselves on a long history of successful junior classes that are defined by age and ability, which contributes to the participants’ development as players. Separating juniors by skill level allows for appropriate skills challenges and swing concepts to be introduced.

Junior classes vary in ratio, cost and student interest level. From clinics and camps with 10:1 ratios to the Jimmy Ballard Junior Golf Academy with 5:1 ratios, the CCGS offers juniors and their parents a variety of classes that are sensitive to price and ability. Junior students can select from the following classes:

• Junior Beginner Full Game
• Junior Beginner Full Swing
• Junior Level 2 Short Game
• Junior Level 2 Full Swing
• Junior Weekend Series

Specialty Classes
The variety of specialty classes makes it easy for groups to arrange lessons together, regardless of skill level. The workshop is like a small group lesson, and the topics can be customized by the members of the group. This option has been popular among families, women, and business groups. Some specialty classes have been so popular that we have added different levels to the class, such as Business Golf 101 and Business Golf 201. In doing so, returning groups have even more options. Students can select from the following classes:

• Golf for the Non-Golfer
• Link Up 2 Golf
• Back in the Swing
• Corporate Outing Crash Course
• Business Golf 101
• Business Golf 201
• Golf Fitness
• Golf Drills
• Mental Game
• Weekend Workshop Beginner Full Game
• Weekend Workshop Review Series
• Custom Workshop

Free Clinics
The CCGS hosts a number of free clinics throughout the year as a way for non-golfers and beginners to learn more about the game. Junior Clinics are offered throughout the year.   Some are nationally recognized programs, including, but not limited to LPGA/Girls Love Golf and Special Olympics.

CCGS clinics are conducted by the professional staff and the topics vary. The clinics are part lecture and demonstration, and part hands-on. The ratio of professionals to participants is generally 10:1, and it is based on the nature of the gathering. A demonstration will allow for a larger ratio. If the clinic involves hands-on activity for the participants, there is a maximum 10:1 ratio.
